August 22, 2020 by Omar Abusalem

Amoxicillin/clavulanate

What is amoxicillin/clavulanic

Amoxicillin/clavulanic is a drug combination and a broad-spectrum antibiotic that is used in both veterinary and human medicine to treat bacterial infections. The addition of clavulanate acid to amoxicillin increases the drug’s effectiveness against bacteria.

One of the most common trademarks of amoxicillin/clavulanic is augmentin. It has a lower ratio of amoxicillin to clavulanic acid (2:1). On the other hand, veterinary amoxicillin/clavulanic, such as Clavamox, has a higher ratio (4:1).

Although amoxicillin / clavulanic is safe for birds, cats, and dogs, it causes health problems for other animals such as rabbits, hamsters, and horses. Therefore, human and veterinary drugs should not be used on animals without consulting the veterinarian.
